Kate Middleton has clever trick to help ‘uncomfortable’ William when girls hit on him

Kate Middleton developed a clever trick to help Prince William when he felt 'uncomfortable' when girls hit on him during their time at university.

Kate, 40, and William, 39, both attended St Andrews University in Scotland, and like any other pupils they got thoroughly stuck into student life.

The pair, along with their pals, would visit popular student bars and clubs together, and William reportedly received his fair share of attention from girls while they were out partying.

While Kate and William weren't actually dating at the time, they were close pals, and Kate made sure to help William whenever he got uncomfortable when girls hit on him.

One of the Cambridges' friends previously revealed the Duchess' clever trick.

Speaking to royal expert Katie Nicholl for her book Kate: The Future Queen, their pal Laura Warshauer said: "Will was getting really hit on by this girl at a party and it was getting quite uncomfortable because he couldn't shake her off.

"He was being really polite, but this girl just didn't get the hint.

"All of a sudden Kate came up behind him and put her arms around him

"He said 'Oh, sorry, but I've got a girlfriend', and he and Kate went off giggling."

Prince William was extremely grateful for Kate's gesture, and he mouthed "thanks so much" to her afterwards, according to Laura.

Laura also said: "Kate was the only girl in the room who could have done that. And that was just a month after we started university."

William and Kate's close friendship didn't stay platonic for long, and it soon blossomed into romance during their time at university.

The pair began dating, and their relationship went from strength to strength as they completed their studies together in Scotland.

However, Kate and William did briefly split up in 2007, and sources have claimed that the Queen was very disappointed when they parted ways.

Nevertheless, the couple's love story didn't end there and they were spotted sharing a kiss just weeks after splitting at an army party at barracks in Bovington, Dorset.

Kate, along with her brother James Middleton, was then seen attending the Concert for Diana, which was held at Wembley Stadium to mark the 10 year anniversary of Princess Diana's death.

Soon after, William and Kate's romance was confirmed to be back on, and Kate moved into the prince's Clarence House flat.
