Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William are college sweethearts who have been married for nearly a decade. In their joint appearances, it’s quite apparent how much these two love and care for one another. However, they have never been known to indulge in a ton of PDA.
While Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have been known (and criticized) for their handholding and lingering looks, the Cambridges have typically kept things rather formal with one another, saving their public moments of affection for their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
However, just because the pair aren’t open about their adoration with one another, doesn’t mean they don’t still flirt. In fact, Kate was once caught by a lip-reader saying some super flirty things about her husband.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are normally very reserved when it comes to PDA
While the Sussexes have been in a honeymoon stage since they met, the future Crowned King and Queen Consort don’t put their adoration for one another on a global stage. In general, the pair seem to be much more reserved than their in-laws.
While there are no strict rules about PDA, Queen Elizabeth II set the tone for her family about being overly affectionate in public. Body language expert Robin Kermode explained to Daily Mail, “The Queen rarely holds hands with her husband in public and this seems to have set an unwritten precedent for the other royals.” The Cambridges have taken her lead. Royal etiquette expert Myka Meier told People,
Senior members of the royal family would likely not be told how to interact or when they can or cannot show PDA and would be trusted to use their better judgment as to when it’s appropriate. The royals often adjust PDA to mirror the formality of the event they are attending.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been showing more PDA lately
Now, amid Megxit and as they’ve become the face of the British royal family amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Cambridges have been much more open about showing PDA.
Late last year, the Cambridges began revving up their PDA moments with cutesy displays, giggling moments, and quiet moments of affection that aren’t necessarily as overt as the Sussexes. Still, Kate and Prince William don’t feel the need to put their love on display. Kermode explained,
It is very clear that William and Kate are emotionally close, however, they do not seem to feel the need to prove their love — particularly when on official state business. They come across as a strong, independent couple and while they are always on show, they do not feel the need to ‘show’ their love for each other to the world.

Kate Middleton made a super flirty comment after seeing Prince William in uniform
Though she is much more reserved now, Kate hasn’t always shied away from making her feelings about her husband known. Back in 2006, when the Cambridges were still dating, Kate made a bold comment at the prince’s Royal Air Force graduation ceremony.
In the documentary, Royal Wives, a lip reader revealed that Kate caught a glimpse of Prince William and said, “I love him in uniform, he’s so, so sexy.”
We would have loved to see this on video.
