Kate Middleton’s house rules including no pizza on sofa, no shouting and bedtime promise

Kate Middleton is a relatively relaxed mum, according to experts, but she does have some house rules.

A royal source says the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge don't allow shouting in their house – a rule they also commit to following themselves – and have a family rule against going to bed angry.

Instead, the couple always encourage Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to have constructive conversations about what's bothering them.

"The children are encouraged to talk about their feelings," the source explained. "They express their concerns over school subjects, a swimming class, a tricky ballet manoeuvre, a missed tennis rally, or seeing children starving on a TV ad. But a talk ensues and a solution found."

The Cambridges are also committed to never sending their kids mixed signals as parents.

"There is no question of one parent saying 'no' and the other saying 'yes' later on as Kate and William want to present a unified parental front to their children," the source explained, adding that one of those rules includes limited TV time.

"The television is not on throughout the day and programs have to be met with parental approval."

Kate has a much more 'hands on' approach when it comes to parenting than some of the more senior royals.

Kate "runs things at home with the kids and the schedules," a friend recently told PEOPLE. "She is hugely involved in every single part of their day."

But it's not just the kids the duchess is picking up after. William has a messy habit that apparently drives his wife mad.

A couple of years ago, while on a visit to an RAF base, William told servicemen: "Keep the pizza off the sofas!"

Kate playfully chipped in: "You're a nightmare with that."

But while Kate and Wills keep a positive and honest home life, the Queen reportedly disapproves of how much time the parents spend in their kitchen socialising with the kids.

On her first trip to their residence at Anmer Hall, the Queen reportedly 'couldn't stand' the fact that the royal couple spent most of their time with their children in the 'food preparation room'.
