Major incident declared on Isle of Man as heavy flooding hits Britain

A major incident has been declared on the Isle of Man as rising floodwaters have left people trapped in their homes and cars washed away.

The Isle of Man Constabulary are warning residents to stay upstairs as they respond to severe flooding.

The constabulary said roads are flooding severely and several vehicles have washed away.

Laxey appears to have been the worst-hit, as residents are being warned by police not to attempt to evacuate their houses amid heavy floodwater surges.

The Isle of Man Constabulary said; “Persons are trapped in at least 3 houses. Fire Rescue and Coastguard are on scene with fast water rescue teams. A major incident has been declared with all Govt agencies helping out. We are asking that any persons trapped go up stairs and monitor media.” 

At least two schools are closed and several roads are shut due to flooding.

Authorities are asking residents of the Isle of Man to keep travel to a minimum as they respond to the heavy flooding.

Dramatic footage shows fast-moving floodwaters moving through the streets of Laxey, washing away vehicles.
