Melania Trump's Easter Egg Roll Has Been Canceled

Melania Trump's annual Easter Egg Roll event has been canceled, due to concerns about the coronavirus.

"Out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with the National Emergency Declaration concerning the COVID-19, the Office of the First Lady is announcing that this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll has been canceled," a statement from the White House read.

The first lady herself added in a statement, "The health and safety of all Americans must be the first priority, especially right now. I deeply regret this cancellation, but we need to make difficult decisions in the short-term to ensure a healthy country for the long-term. During this time, I encourage everyone to listen to state and local officials, and follow CDC guidelines in order to help protect the health and well-being of everyone."

Trump has said little about the ongoing coronavirus spread in public, though she did tweet twice about the pandemic, first to link to the CDC website, and then to thank healthcare professionals.

In recent days, President Donald Trump has faced criticism over his subdued response to the coronavirus. Though he was reportedly hesitant, the president declared a national state of emergency over the virus on Friday after several states already declared states of emergency.
