Moon Knight has captured audiences’ attention worldwide, and the Marvel Disney+ series is only getting more enthralling with every new episode. Unfortunately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe show will likely end following the premiere of episode 6. According to a Moon Knight director, a theoretical season 2 is not currently in the works.
‘Moon Knight’ director Mohamed Diab denies being aware of a season 2
During an interview with Collider, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab, who helmed episodes 1, 3, 5, and 6, spoke about the show’s future.
“I want to let you in [on] a secret,” Diab started. “Marvel is so secretive that what’s your experience is what my experience is. I know nothing. And sometimes you ask yourself, ‘Did I do a bad job?’ But I think this is the way they do it. Thank God they love the show. They keep expressing every day how much they love the show, but it’s not like any other show, meaning on the other show, outside the Marvel universe.”
He continued, “Meaning any TV series, if it’s good, you know that you’re going to get a second season, but one WandaVision was great. And you didn’t get a second season. You went to something else. So what I’m absolutely sure of [is] that Moon Knight is staying, staying for a long time, in my opinion. That’s just a prediction.”
“He’s so interesting that I think he’s going to stay, but what’s going to happen next?” Diab pondered. “Is he going to be [on] another season? Is it going to be a film? Is he [joining] someone else? My guess is yours.”
Many fans and critics regarded WandaVision as one of the best television shows of 2021. However, it is a limited series that will not continue. But Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. So Oscar Isaac may continue playing Moon Knight in the MCU, even if there isn’t a Moon Knight Season 2.
Mohamed Diab believes Moon Knight has a bright future in the MCU, even if there isn’t a season 2
Before Moon Knight premiered on Disney+, Mohamed Diab spoke with SFX Magazine about the superhero’s future in the MCU.
“I can tell you for a fact I can see him in the next 10 years, not just the next film,” Diab shared. “He’s a very interesting character. He’s probably the most interesting character for any actor to play. Oscar is doing a great job. People already like him, even from the trailer. I think the show’s going to resonate with people, so I see him staying for a long time.”
Knowing that fans have only fallen more in love with Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of the superhero after Moon Knight‘s premiere, it’s safe to say that Diab’s assumptions will prove accurate. Even if there isn’t a Moon Knight Season 2, Steven Grant and Marc Spector likely aren’t leaving the MCU any time soon.
The director reveals he was surprised Marvel let the series stand on its own in the MCU
While speaking with Collider, Mohamed Diab praised Marvel for letting him explore new territory in Moon Knight.
“I wanted to push it,” the director revealed. “I wanted something that usually [they] wouldn’t think that they want, which is, I wanted it to look and feel different than every other MCU project, which eventually is the case. And today, you might say, some people keep telling me, if there’s no Marvel logo at the beginning of episode 1, you wouldn’t necessarily know that this is a Marvel show, which is something I’m proud of.”
Diab added, “And I’m proud of how we deleted the idea of any crossovers, and we didn’t have need [for] crutches. We stood on our own, and the project … Maybe that’s the surprise, rather than a crossover, that we can stand on our own.”
Although Marvel hasn’t announced any crossovers between Moon Knight and the MCU, we’re confident they will happen. Perhaps a Midnight Sons project is in the works that includes Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight.
