A group of parents who parked outside a special needs school because there was "nowhere else to park" were fined £35 each.
Cheshire East Council is facing backlash over the fines to parents who parked outside Springfield Special School in Crewe at the end of sports day on Thursday.
While the parents acknowledge they parked on the double yellow lines leading up to the school, the road is a minor road which effectively only serves the school.
One of the parents, who contacted Cheshire Live , said: “There is nowhere else around that area for people to park.”
Parking at the school is extremely limited and parents say many of the children, because of their special needs, are taken to school by bus or taxi with care staff.
A mum said: “I understand the traffic warden was just doing their job but considering the circumstances and the lack of parking, I think it’s awful.
“If there was a choice – somewhere else to park – I could understand it, but there isn’t. They’ve targeted parents at that school, in my opinion.”
Another parent, who posted her parking fine on Facebook , has been criticised by some on social media who say there is no excuse for parking there and the families should have taken a bus or taxi.
“I saw the response the mum received on Facebook.
“Some people have been saying the parents should have gone by taxi or bus, but this is a school for children with profound learning needs and physical disabilities.
“And it’s not just for Crewe kids – in fact a lot of the kids come from places like Holmes Chapel and Alsager, so the families couldn’t get a bus.
“Also, some of the parents have younger children who are also disabled and will be going into the school when they are five or so – how do people expect them to get on a bus?
