It's believe the name stems from a horse's moniker.
The animal belonged to Ethel Mars, co-founder of the Mar-o-Bar company, now known as Mars Company.
According to the legend, Snickers the horse died just before the nameless chocolate bar went into production.
And as a tribute, Ethel along with her husband Frank decided to call the new bar Snickers.
The first Snickers was sold in Chicago, US, for just 5 cents.
Then when it came to the UK, executives said the name sounded like "knickers" and renamed it a Marathon bar.
It stuck in the UK until 1990, before Mars decided it wanted universal names for its products around the world.
So it went back to being called Snickers and has been known by that ever since.
Some choccie fans were attached to the Marathon name so they refused to buy it when it was called Snickers.

But after a world-famous advertising campaign in 2010, the popularity of the Snickers increased.
Its campaign contributed to sales of Snickers growing by 15.9%.
The origin of the Snickers name has been shared multiple times on Twitter, with people reacting in shock.
One said: "I think you've just ruined everyone's childhood."
Another Twitter fan added: "I shall still never eat one again until they are called Marathon again."
While a third social media user commented: "Very interesting, thank you. Love history!"
