Piers Morgan quits ‘Good Morning Britain’ after clash over Meghan remarks

Piers Morgan on Wednesday doubled down on his comments about Meghan Markle that led to his departure from “Good Morning Britain” — while blasting the Duchess of Sussex for her “contemptible” Oprah interview.

Morgan, 55, reiterated that he still doesn’t believe Markle, 39, was genuine in the tell-all special in which she revealed her mental health struggles behind palace walls, The Sun reported.

“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible,” Morgan told reporters outside of his home in London.

The famed host said that he stepped down from his morning TV gig Tuesday after having a “good chat” with network ITV.

“We agreed to disagree,” he said.

“I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion,” the outspoken anchor added. “If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.”

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it,” he continued.

Morgan’s departure from the show came just hours after he stormed off the set when confronted by a colleague over his relentless criticism of the Duchess of Sussex.

“I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle. You’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, and I understand that you had a personal relationship with Meghan Markle and she cut you off,” his co-star Alex Beresford said.

“Has she said anything about you after she cut you off? She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. And yet you continue to trash her.”

As for Morgan’s resignation, the network said in a statement that he “decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain” after spending six years on the show.
