Today, January 12, just days after our favourite redheaded Prince announced that he would be stepping down as a senior member of the Royal Family marks the 11th annual ‘Kiss A Ginger Day’ and Twitter users are sending lots of love his way.
This special day was founded in 2009 by Derek Fogie as a reaction to the crueller counterpart ‘Kick A Ginger Day’ which was banned in the US in 2016.

Unfortunately, there is no evidence that the day has been made illegal in the UK as of yet and campaigners state that it should fall under the banner of discrimination.
In fact, nearly half of all redheads, and 60 per cent of redheaded men, have been discriminated against because of their hair colour.
Some argue that this particular form of discrimination is most rampant in the UK where 10 per cent of our population is redheaded – far lower than the global 2 per cent or even in the States where 6 per cent are ginger.
While red hair can occur in any ethnicity, it is Scotland which is the redheaded capital of the world with 13 per cent of their population boasting fiery locks.
Quite frankly it doesn’t make much sense considering the plethora of gorgeous redheaded stars on our screens: Christina Hendrix, Amy Adams… even Rupert Grint is a bit of a totty.
Twitter users used the hashtag #kissagingerday to send their support to the Duke of Sussex where one said: “I’ll need to track myself down a ginger chap. I wonder if Harry’s gone back to Canada yet…”
A second wrote: "If Prince Harry or Ed Sheeran would like to visit me I would happily kiss a ginger."
Drinks company Aperol Spritz even joined in on the loveliest writing: “Missing your Prince Harry on National Kiss A Ginger Day? Love all shades of orange today with Aperol at your local!”
Many blame the worsening ginger-discrimination on the TV show South Park, who invented ‘gingivitis’ and perpetuated the online meme that redheads “have no souls”.
In a world where some young people, like 14-year-old Simon Walters , have even committed suicide due to being bullied for their hair colour more redheaded love wouldn't go amiss.

Kiss a ginger day is, therefore, about spreading the love for our redheaded friends and appreciating their unique and beautiful hair colour.
So, if there’s a ginger in your life who you think deserves a kiss, make sure you ask them first (a crucial step or it stops being nice) and then plant one on them.
Go on, Meghan! Give him a kiss…
