Princess Beatrice wedding body language shows she ‘can’t believe they finally got there’

Princess Beatrice, 31, was finally able to walk up the aisle yesterday, and the royal married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 37. Select members of the Royal Family looked on, but it was a low-key affair compared to the one her sister Princess Eugenie enjoyed two years ago. What did Beatrice and Edo’s body language reveal about the day?

Judi James, body language expert, shared her analysis exclusively with Express.co.uk.

She revealed: “The non-verbal story at this very pared-down royal wedding looks all about the tiara and the teeth.

“The stunning tiara Beatrice is wearing provides a constant reminder that this should have been as regal an event as her younger sister’s wedding last year, but the brilliance of her equally dazzling, slightly open-mouthed smile suggests she could barely have been happier to finally tie the knot with Edoardo.

“Peering happily from the door of the church, Bea’s wide-eyed, sideways glance looks tentative enough to suggest she can’t believe they finally got there, despite what must have been some massive hurdles.

“With no massed crowds cheering her on there’s clearly no need for her to tone down her feelings of joy and adopt a more royal demeanor, meaning she is able to throw a look of shy excitement and pleasure.

“Eduardo’s grin looks a bit more rigid but equally happy.”

What about the main royal in attendance, and the person who loaned Beatrice her wedding tiara, the Queen?

Judy continued: “The Queen also looks able to be more relaxed and demonstrative that she can at bigger, more public events and despite the social distancing she appear to be keen to bridge the gap by aiming a smile at the bride and groom that suggests some normal, granny-style emotions of support and warmth as they pose for the camera.”

A guestlist of the big day has not been shared, but it is known that as well as the Queen and Prince Philip, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, along with Princess Eugenie, were in attendance.

What is not clear, however, is which other royals – if any – joined in the day.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, celebrated her birthday on the same day as the wedding, and many will want to know if she made it, given she was conspicuously absent from Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie’s wedding in 2018.

Eugenie and Beatrice were said to be “upset” that their aunt did not attend the fairytale wedding.

Camilla said she was pulled away by another royal engagement, attending a school event in Scotland.

However, there were suspicions that there may be another reason for her absence ‒ a decades-long grudge against the bride’s father Prince Andrew.

A source told The Telegraph in 2018 that the York family admitted they were “upset” by Camilla’s decision and the Daily Mail reported that many were “baffled”, even though the Duchess of Cornwall putting duty first was “commendable”.

One source from Scotland told the Daily Mail: “We are used to seeing the royals out and about. I don’t think anyone would have been too startled if the engagement was cancelled because of the wedding.”

Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the wedding yesterday morning, which did not shed much light on exactly who was at the event.

It read: “The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11am on Friday 17 July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

“The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family.

“The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.”
