Sainsbury’s is one of many supermarkets who has introduced new shopping rules amid the coronavirus crisis. The supermarket’s CEO Mike Coupe has now revealed these measures could stay in place until September.

Social distancing rules have been put in place to help customers stay safe during the coronavirus lockdown.
These include limiting how many people can enter a store at once and restricting opening hours.
While customers have already been dealing with the implications of lockdown for a few weeks, it could be a long time before things ease up at the shops.
Sainsbury’s boss Mike Coupe explained that customers could see disruptions to shopping until September.
He said: “There could well be some social distancing in place for the rest of the calendar year.”
The supermarket giant could stick with new rules to keep up with growing demand and ensure everyone is able to get what they need.
What are the social distancing measures at Sainsbury’s?
Queuing outside
The supermarket chain has enforced a queueing system which asks shoppers to wait outside.
Speaking when the system was announced, the CEO said: “We have queuing systems in place outside stores and ask you to please queue at a safe distance of two metres apart.
“Please also try to keep a safe distance from other customers and from our colleagues when you are doing your shop.
“We have placed clear markings on shop floors to help you know what a safe distance is.”
One adult per household
Customers are also urged to shop alone with just one member of each household per trolley.

“We are asking everyone to please only send one adult per household to our shops,” a statement explained.
“This helps us keep people a safe distance apart and also helps to reduce queues to get into stores.
“Our store teams will be asking groups with more than one adult to choose one adult to shop and will ask other adults to wait.
“Children are of course welcome if they are not able to stay at home.”
Screens at checkout
Protective equipment has also been put in place in most stores.
These will aim to protect both members of staff and customers when shopping.
Mike Coupe said: “To help keep our colleagues safe while serving customers, we now have screens at most manned checkouts.
“In the next few days we will have finished installing the screens across all manned checkouts in every supermarket, convenience store and Argos collection point.”
