Sweet insight into Sussex family life from Lili’s first steps to Archie’s dream job

After meeting the Queen and Prince Charles at Windsor, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex focused heavily on family during their speeches at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games.

In a personal address, Harry spoke of his dreams for his two-year-old son and the inspiration he took from the injured veterans who compete at the event he created.

"To be role models, or the role models, that each of you are takes strength and it takes courage," he said.

"When I talk to my son Archie about what he wants to be when he grows up, some days it's an astronaut, other days it's a pilot – a helicopter pilot, obviously. Or Kwazii from Octonauts – if you're laughing then you've seen that.

"But what I remind him is that, no matter what you want to be when you grow up, it's your character that matters most, and nothing would make his mum and me prouder than to see him have the character of what we see before us today."

In Meghan's speech, she introduced her "incredible husband" as "the founder of the Invictus games and the father of our two little ones, Archie and Lili".

Later in the weekend, Harry also revealed their daughter Lili had "taken her first steps". He said his ten-month-old little girl was "trying to keep up with her big brother Archie".

Royal fans were delighted with the sweet insight into Archie and Lili's development and budding personalities.

It's not the first time the couple have opened up about their children.

The Duchess of Sussex discussed family life in the United States – in her first television interview since her explosive conversation with Oprah Winfrey – in November last year.

The 40-year-old joined Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show and revealed how the family had celebrated Halloween.

She said: "We wanted to do something fun for the kids, and then the kids were just not into it at all."

She added that Archie had dressed up as a dinosaur and Lilibet as a skunk "like Flower from Bambi".

Ellen, who had spent the day with the family, said Archie kept his costume's head on for "not even five minutes," adding, "Finally, Harry talked him into putting the head on."

Meghan also revealed that Lilibet had started teething and that she was looking for "anything to relieve" her daughter. "Tequila?" Ellen, 63, joked. Meghan responded, "That's Auntie Ellen for you."

The Duchess shared a new image of Archie feeding his chickens in the back garden of their Montecito mansion, wearing a pair of Peppa Pig wellies.

Touching on Archie's affection for his little sister, she gushed, "He loves being a big brother. Someone told Harry and me that when you have one kid it's a hobby and two children, it's parenting. And suddenly we were like, 'Oh, right.'

"Everyone talks about what it's like for the second child but no one talks about the adjustment for the first child when the second one comes along."
