TESCO shoppers will soon be able to sign up to a new Clubcard Plus membership scheme that will offer discounts on food as well as other perks.
The new scheme was revealed as part of the supermarket's financial results published today and it will launch by the end of this year.
But there is a catch, as unlike Tesco Clubcard it won't be free – it'll set you back £7.99 a month (or £95.88) a year.
Members will get benefits including 10 per cent off two in-store food shops each month, so that's a £10 saving on a £100 shop, for example – and you'll be able to select when to use this perk.
You'll also always get 10 per cent off selected Tesco brands in-store including F&F, Fred & Flo, Go Cook, Tesco Pet, Carousel, and Fox & Ivy.
Plus if you're a Tesco Mobile customer, you'll get double the data offered on your plan for free.
Supermarket loyalty schemes – which has one?
MOST UK supermarkets have loyalty schemes so customers can build up points and save money while they shop.
Here we round up what saving programmes you'll find at the big brands.
- Iceland: Unlike other stores, you don't collect points with the Iceland Bonus Card. Instead, you load it up with money and Iceland will give you £1 for every £20 you save. Cash isn't protected though.
- Morrisons: Morrisons' More gives customers five points per £1 spent in store. When customers earn 5,000 points they receive a £5 voucher.
- Sainsbury's: While Sainsbury's doesn't have a personal scheme, it does own the Nectar card which can also be used in Argos, eBay and other shops. You need 200 Nectar points to save up £1 to spend on your card. You need to spend at least £1 to get one Nectar point.
- Tesco: Tesco Clubcard has over 19million members in the UK alone. You use it each time you shop and build up points that can be turned into vouchers – 150 points gets you a £1.50 voucher. Here you need to spend £1 in Tesco to get one point.
- Waitrose: myWaitrose also doesn't allow you to collect points but instead you'll get access to free hot drinks, and discounts off certain brands in store.
You'll also have access to a new Tesco Bank Clubcard Plus credit card, which is fee-free to use abroad.
Discounts can be managed via the Tesco Clubcard app and you just need to scan a barcode on the app at the till to use the perks, which is available in all Tesco stores.
If you decide it's not for you, you can also cancel anytime.
Tesco's chief executive, Dave Lewis, who also announced today that he is stepping down from the role, says the new membership scheme is a way of putting together all the benefits Tesco offers into one.
He says it's time "for something new".
Alessandra Bellini, Tesco chief customer officer, added: “New Clubcard Plus is a breakthrough innovation giving customers even more ways to get the best value while shopping at Tesco, for their everyday essentials, weekly shops, mobile and banking”.
With Tesco Clubcard, you earn one point for every £1 spent at the retailer. Points can be built up to turn into vouchers and 150 points gets you a £1.50 voucher.
These can then be used as money-off Tesco vouchers or you can triple the value to spend on rewards, such as days out or restaurant meals.
In its financial results today, Tesco also revealed that it plans to open 150 new Express stores over the next three years, as well as open three new superstores in the UK.
But it is still pressing ahead with plans first announced in August to shake-up 153 Metro stores, which could see 4,500 jobs cut.
Tesco has been trialling cheaper prices for customers of its Clubcard loyalty scheme with the latest round of discounts starting today.
