The “dramatic” conclusion to The Bachelor 2020 has come and gone, but fans can’t stop talking about it on Twitter and Instagram. Madison Prewett, in particular, has been a topic of conversation. After self-eliminating, the Auburn native agreed to try out a relationship with Weber after he broke off his engagement with Hannah Ann Sluss. Bachelor Nation’s reaction to Prewett has been fairly positive and she’s gotten tons of support. But is all of her support genuine and real?
Though Prewett received a glowing edit on The Bachelor, a little slip-up earlier in the year caused her to be met with a bit of backlash. Taking to her Instagram page, she posted pictures of herself and Weber on their first one-on-one date. “Woke up feeling super grateful…the most perfect date with the perfect guy,” the 23-year-old captioned the post with a heart. That seemed pretty normal until Prewett commented “Beautiful date Madi. You are so genuine and real,” under it.
Madison Prewett was accused of running her own fan account on Instagram
Superfans of The Bachelor quickly noticed the comment and screenshotted it, claiming that Prewett had likely forgotten to log out of her fan account when she wrote that. It didn’t take long for Prewett to address the faux pas. “Oops! Thought I wrote that comment about being real & genuine from my account but was logged into Madi’s from when she got back from filming. Don’t hate me,” a friend of Prewett wrote after one of her sisters allegedly took credit for the comment also. “Hahahaha you’re good, it happens love youuuu,” Prewett wrote back.
That situation seemed to blow over for fans of The Bachelor. But now Prewett has been accused of buying Instagram followers. At the time of this article, Prewett boasts nearly 1.9 million followers (up from 350,000 in mid-January). Not only is this number unprecedented for the runner up (or winner), but also for most leads and even women who have gone on to be The Bachelorette. In comparison, Sluss has 1.3 million followers and she was a model and influencer before. Furthermore, Sluss has done interviews on huge platforms like The Ellen Degeneres Show since The Bachelor ended while Prewett has not.
Critics on Twitter toss out accusations
Some of Bachelor Nation has gone on to express their opinions on Instagram. “Maddie literally bought her followers and runs her own fan acct #yikes,” one person wrote. “There’s an app you can use to see if someone has fake engagement (followers) and they tested it on here and they were bought. Also, she commented on her own page that she is so genuine and real. It takes a quick google search to see this,” another person chimed in.
Of course, it could be possible that Prewett is just weirdly popular in The Bachelor world. However, fans find it suspicious that she has already hired a PR person to represent her and manage her Insta fame. “Can’t believe she hired a PR already. Couldn’t she have waited, not even @bkoof has one!! Shows her real intentions, 🤷🏻♀️” one fan commented on Prewett’s most recent Instagram post.
Alums of ‘The Bachelor’ find it odd that Prewett already has an agent
It’s true that former Bachelorette, Becca Kufrin (who has 1.3 million Instagram followers) doesn’t have an agent. On a recent episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Kufrin and her co-host, Rachel Lindsay Abasolo, revealed how odd it was that Prewett has already managed to get herself representation.
“There are certain timelines we have to adhere to as the lead, and getting representation at that point doesn’t add up. I don’t even have an agent still, and I was the Bachelorette two years ago. I do things myself. Rachel is calling it like it is, and it’s a very strange scenario that we find ourselves in after the Bachelor world, but it doesn’t add up. It’s interesting to me given the timeline of everything. It doesn’t make sense,” Kufrin admitted.
What’s really genuine and real?
While there’s no foolproof way to know if Bachelor fans are right about Prewett buying followers, there are some things that don’t quite add up. Regardless, Prewett does seem to have some sort of genuine and real following championing her every move, so we doubt these accusations will do anything to hurt her fanbase.
