If you want to take an exotic holiday, long-haul flights have become a necessary evil.
But there are there are some clever ways to help your body recover quickly from the ordeal.
Flight attendants, pilots and frequent flyers have been sharing their top tips for resetting after a flight.
By tricking the body, they have found solutions for swollen limbs, jet lag and even avoiding the pesky cold that usual arrives 24 hours after landing.
By following the advice, you could escape many of the typical symptoms that come from long plane journeys.

Get a massage
The body accumulates fluid during a long flight, which is why you get puffy ankles and feet.
Book yourself in for a massage at your destination, which will help to relieve the pain and swelling.
Have a bath with Epsom bath salts
If you can’t afford a massage, take a bath with Epsom bath salts.
The theory is that the salts break down into magnesium and sulphate in the water and these then soak into your skin.
While that hasn’t been proven, they are said to relieve muscle tension, pain and inflammation.
Use a saline solution during the flight to prevent a cold
A combination of low humidity and increased bacteria on a flight mean that you are much more likely to develop a cold.
To help prevent this, take a small bottle of saline solution with you on the plane and flush your nose out hourly in order to keep your nasal passages clean and moist.
Go for a run
Research has shown that exercise can help the body cope with time changes.
Going for a run, or at least a brisk walk, after you’ve arrived at your hotel will help you start to reset your body clock.
Keep the curtains open while you sleep
Jet lag can make it very hard to wake up in the morning.
To try and avoid this, keep your curtains half-drawn at night-time, so that you will naturally wake up when daylight starts to creep into the room.
Keep your feet elevated
By keeping your feet elevated above the height of your heart, gravity draws swelling down and back into circulation.
In Economy, it is virtually impossible to do this, but by keeping your feet even half a foot off the ground by placing them on your hand luggage, it will take longer for the swelling to pool in your feet.
Watch what you eat
Watching what you eat on a long plane journey will help speed up the post-flight recovery.
Avoid any gas-producing food like onions, garlic, potatoes, dairy products and fizzy drinks because these will leave you bloated.
Don’t drink any booze
As tempting as a free glass of wine might be, it will dehydrate your body.
Instead, opt for water or herbal teas, which have the added benefit of steaming your nasal passages. v
