A Birmingham restaurant has hit back at a one-star Google review which accused the eatery of being ‘aggressively rude’.
According to the reviewer, known only as ‘Ryan’, their experience at the Bun & Barrel in Harborne was not a good one – despite it enjoying an average rating of 4.4 stars.
The review, which also branded the burger stop ‘pretentious’, described how the writer had been asked to leave because he’d been drinking.
Sharing his opinion, the reviewer said: ‘Wouldn’t bother, walked in, informed the server we had been drinking but would like a burger, kicked out straight away saying they don’t allow people who have been drinking to enter.
The restaurant, which was co-founded by Jamie Desogus and Rob Hennebry (pictured) did not take the one-star review lying down
‘Aggressively rude. If you want a good burger use Burger Me Up or Herbert’s Yard, Longbridge, not these pretentious people.’
However, representatives for the restaurants, which was co-founded by Jamie Desogus and Rob Hennebry, took to the review to dispute Ryan’s account, which they shared on Twitter.
In a blistering riposte, eatery staff pointed out that the diner had been drunk, and that they were unable to serve him for this reason.
They wrote: ‘Oh Ryan, that’s not quite what happened is it?

Responding to the write-up, staff pointed out that they were unable to serve patrons who had had too much to drink
‘You said you were “p*****” not “had been drinking”. So we said: “Maybe another night then”. Doesn’t sound aggressive? Does it?
‘It’s illegal for us to serve someone who is ‘p*****’ by the way.
‘Maybe you were more drunk than you remember if your memory of the conversation is that bad.
‘Good thing is we have the footage including sounds if you’d like it?’
Despite the critical one-star review, several other diners had enjoyed a five-star experience, and they left enthusiastic write-ups
Despite Ryan’s poor review, the restaurant has an average rating of 4.4 stars on Google, and it boasts a number of five-star reviews.
One happy diner wrote: ‘Cracking burger, chilled out atmosphere, great music efficient and friendly staff Hung around the bar after our food and sampled the beers, well worth a visit.’
Another added: ‘Simply lovely. Food excellent and fairly priced given the top quality ingredients. The pint of Attic was divine.’
A third said: ‘Best burger. Very welcoming peeps who work here, fantastic place.’
And a fourth added: ‘Great atmosphere, welcoming staff. I’ve had burgers all around the world and this was something special. Best burger I’ve ever had in my life? Maybe…if not the best, then it was definitely up there with the best. A great addition to Harborne!’
