How does it work?
Those who work for the public sector, including the NHS, police and fire services, can grab themselves a bargain by shopping at Company Shop Group.
The discount retailer buys products including surplus food from supermarkets and sells them on for a bargain price.
Their website said: “Our stores are packed with high quality branded food and household products, but our prices are amazing. Plus, our stock is constantly changing, so there’s a surprise every time you shop.
“Our shelves are stocked with surplus products that may otherwise be going to waste. So while you’re saving some pounds, you’re also saving the planet.”
As well as supplying cheap food, the supermarket also stocks items including household goods, garden supplies and pet care products.
Retailers will give away items including food that has a short shelf-life and products that has damaged or old packaging on them.
They will rescue items which would otherwise end up in the bin and sell them on at a discounted rate.
Some retailers will even donate items to the supermarket chain without charging a fee.
By doing this, the company reported it handled 70 million items and redistributed 23,607 tonnes of surplus food.
Memberships are needed to shop in store and only certain groups of people will be able to sign up.
