Range Rovers are epic all-wheel-drive vehicles but did you know they’re also royal favorites? That’s right — the refined royal family’s favorite vehicle is probably best known for being rough and ready on the trail! These vehicles are famous for their ability to handle even the most challenging of terrains.
Let’s face it, most of us would love to drive a vehicle as luxurious as a Rolls Royce, as recognizable as the queen herself, and as capable of climbing trails as a mountain goat. Maybe we can’t afford it but the royal family certainly can!
The royal family gets a Range Rover hookup
The queen is reported to receive “special pricing” from the Range Rover company. Some of the royal family’s 30 or more vehicles are also apparently loaned to the queen which raises questions about the royals acting as advertising for the company.
There’s no question about that with the queen’s oldest granddaughter, Zara Tindall. She’s the brand’s official ambassador, a title she can hold only because she doesn’t have a royal title.
The company makes special adjustments for the queen’s vehicles, too. Side steps and extra grab bars are installed to help the elderly monarch get in and out of the large SUVs more easily. After all, it’s been quite a few years since her days as a truck driver and mechanic in the British Royal Army during World War II! Perhaps that experience is where she developed her love for the rugged vehicles she uses to drive around her country estates.
A royally safe vehicle
Prince Philip flipped his Range Rover last January after T-boning another vehicle. The crash demolished his Range Rover and sent the two women in the Kia to the hospital but the 98-year-old prince walked away unharmed. That kind of accident result might be why these vehicles are family favorites.
He must have made a call right away because the Range Rover company delivered a brand new vehicle to the Sandringham estate less than 24-hours after the crash. The indomitable prince was spotted driving it just two days later, immediately after he was cleared by doctors to get up and about.
That quick service isn’t surprising since a repairman will “fly in from Coventry” to fix the tiniest thing that goes wrong with one of the royal vehicles.
Do other celebrities like Range Rovers?
The British royals aren’t the only famous people who are fans of the Range Rover. Many celebrities enjoy being seen about town in these luxury SUVs. Although most of them probably enjoy its luxurious interior, comfortable ride, and famous cachet more than any of its off-road capabilities: The Range Rover allows them to show off in a more understated way than driving a Jaguar.
The list of celebrities who drive this luxury SUV is extensive. Paris Hilton, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Gwen Stefani are just some of the A-listers who have been spotted in a Range Rover.
To get a feel for what some of them think about their luxury rides, check out these two celebrity quotes. Actor Luke Goss said: “As far as trucks, the great thing about a Range Rover is if you’re going out for a dinner, even a black-tie event, you can take the Range Rover.”
And according to Baby Spice Emma Bunton: “I’ve got a Range Rover and a little Mercedes. I normally drive my Range Rover because I feel like a monster in it. Nobody messes with me.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle opted for Range Rovers on their Africa tour
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drove their personal Range Rover throughout their African tour. It, and a fleet of five Land Rovers for their security detail, were flown to Africa by the Jaguar Land Rover Company, makers of the Range Rover. They probably appreciated their luxurious four-wheel-drive vehicle when they traveled into the bush to help Elephants Without Borders put tracking collars on elephants during World Elephant Day.
It just goes to show that sometimes you really need four-wheel-drive. Even if you’re a royal used to the ultimate in luxury!
