At a certain age, your parents will simply have to accept the fact that their little baby is all grown up and most likely having sex.
And while they'll probably come to terms with this, they don't really want the idea shoved down their throats.
One woman recently found herself in a very awkward situation after she sent her mum a photo of her new bedroom.
That's because her eagle-eyed parent was quick to point out that there was a rather raunchy item lurking in the background of the shot.
Singer-songwriter, Ella Martine texted her mum the snap, not realising that she still had a pair of handcuffs cuffed to the headboard of her bed.
When her mum spotted them, she had to think fast to come up with an excuse as to why they were there.
Not wanting to admit the truth, she told her mum they were a prop from her roommate's short film and she'd just forgotten to remove them.
She shared screengrabs of the entire conversation on Twitter, writing: "Mom's been asking for pics of my new room… finally sent one… I'm so stupid."
In the screengrab, you can see a photo of her bed and bedside table.
Underneath this, her mum says: "Nice. Except for the handcuffs??? What's up with that?"
Ella replied: "Jordan's short film. He filmed here over the summer."
Her mum then quickly instructs her to "remove them" as they are "super tacky".
The tweet quickly went viral, garnering over 114,000 likes and more than 23,000 retweets.
One person replied: "Always triple check your work before submitting."
Another commented: "How she even peep that?? She a mom mom."
Similarly, a third said: "Your mom got an eye because I didn’t even see them."
"Why would she ASK like she doesn’t KNOW," asked someone else.
