Zachary Quinto has been clean for four years.
Posting a photo of himself to Instagram on Sunday, the actor — who has previously spoken about his issues with alcohol and marijuana — wrote, “four years sober sun-kissed selfie. grateful for today!”
In 2019, the 42-year-old opened up about his history with substance abuse during a Q&A, saying (via E! News): “I wasn’t really a huge partier, I didn’t have my first drink until I was 17 or 18. And I didn’t smoke pot until I was around the same age.”
“I engaged those things relatively normally in my twenties, I think,” the “American Horror Story” star said during the talk with Dr. Judith Grisel, a psychologist who focuses on addiction. “It wasn’t until, interestingly, that I achieved a certain level of success that I began to drink problematically.”
The “Star Trek” star said that in his thirties, he began drinking and smoking pot daily and finally realized he had a problem because, “I was just so miserable … I didn’t lose everything, I didn’t ruin relationships, I had what I think people refer to as a high bottom. But there was one day when I was like, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’”
