The worst thing about social isolation? Easy – not being able to see all your friends and family in the flesh. The second worst thing? Being confronted with the ghastly sight of your own face on every video call.
It’s like your phone camera catching you unaware on selfie mode… and then not being able to turn it off for the next half an hour. Much as you want to chat to your mates about logging in to Bongo’s Bingo, you’re horrifically distracted by everything from your eye bags to the peaky state of your complexion.
Honestly, anyone would think you’d been stuck indoors for a year, let alone a week or two.
However if you’re using Zoom to stay in touch with the world, there’s a quick and easy hack to help you feel less crummy on camera. The video calling service has a secret beauty filter to instantly soften and blur your imperfections.
The effect is also reasonably believable, as opposed to a Snapchat-style face transplant that everyone would rumble instantly.
Switching on the beauty filter couldn’t be simpler. Just click the arrow to the right of the video icon to bring up the video settings, then select the ‘Touch Up My Appearance’ box.
In one little click, it’ll airbrush your skin, soften lines and brighten your complexion. It’s like smoothing on a good dollop of Fenty foundation without picking up a blending brush.
It’s definitely a trick worth knowing, whether you need to fix up fast for a work call or you’re at a social distance from your other half and want to look your best for digital date night.
Now where’s the filter that’ll switch that slobby onesie for a new ASOS outfit?
