Actively looking for an adventure holiday? Try one of these fabulous Greek destinations.

Rhodes — for giving it a go

Is there a sport you’ve always wanted to try? Rhodes has it all. Try windsurfing or kitesurfing at Ixia, Ialyssos or Theologos along the west coast, where wind conditions in the morning are perfect for beginners before the big afternoon gusts for pros.

Peaceful Stegna beach is great for getting on a stand-up paddle board. Always wanted to dive? Scuba schools in Rhodes Town and Faliraki will get you down into Rhodes’ translucent seas.

Dare to take your first lesson in rock climbing and rappel down Rhodes’ cliffs. Or saddle up and explore them on a more soothing off-road adventure, ending with a spectacular sunset.

Don’t miss: If vertigo isn’t an issue, try parasailing at the Rhodes Town beach of Elli for unforgettable views of the city and the sea beyond.

Kefalonia – for rock fans

The biggest of the Ionian Islands, Kefalonia has some of Greece’s most spectacular caves. Head to the pretty village of Sami on its east coast to join an unforgettable boat tour of Melissani Cave.

LOVE ISLANDS

Why Greece is the word for a romantic getaway

This gorgeous cavern has an underground lake in the most extraordinary shades of blue and green. While you’re in Sami, take a tour of nearby Drogarati Cave and its jaw-dropping underground rock formations.

Don’t miss: A hike to the top of Mount Ainos in Ainos National Park for sublime views of the Ionian Islands.

Kos – for the jet-ski set

When you set foot on this small Dodecanese island in the Aegean Sea, you’ll instantly see why Kos’s beaches are such a major draw.

Make a beeline for the south coast and discover how Magic Beach got its name. Once you’ve had a go on the jet-skis, go inland for a true island adventure – the wild mountain slopes have fantastic horse riding and mountain biking trails through pine-scented forests.

And if you want a challenging hike, try tackling Kos’s highest mountain, Mount Dikaios, which soars to nearly 2,800ft.

Don’t miss: Take a dip in the hot springs of Bros Therma – especially at sunset.

The Peloponnese – for whitewater thrillseekers

The sprawling Peloponnese peninsula is packed with natural wonders, from deep gorges to fantastic beaches backed by dramatic mountains, especially around the lush resorts along the Costa Navarino coastline.

Head to the hilly heart of the peninsula near the village of Karytaina for a white-knuckle ride as you go rafting on the Alfeios and Lousios rivers. For a coastal adventure, try sea kayaking in the shimmering waters around Kalamata – yes, that place with the delicious olives.

Or stay in one of Jet2holidays’ budget-friendly hotels in Stoupa and go paddleboarding by its beautiful beach.

Don’t miss: Hike to the Neda Waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the vivid blue waters.

Heraklion, Crete – for those who dig deep

If you love beaches but love adventure even more, you’ll find Greece’s largest island was made for you.

Fly into Crete’s capital, Heraklion, and make your way east to Agios Nikolaos for watersports heaven. Plumb the depths of the sea while scuba diving and discover underwater canyons and atmospheric shipwrecks.

Messing around on boats in Crete means speeding away in a motorboat: splash out on a skippered boat that will take you out to secret swimming and snorkelling spots. Or just rent a paddleboard and enjoy a gentler pace as you skim the azure waves.

Don’t miss: Rent a kayak and paddle out to Panagia Beach on the tiny island of Dia in front of Heraklion.

Chania, Crete – for trailblazers

Once you’ve admired the incredibly attractive town of Chania – one of the loveliest in Crete – it’s time for an adventure on horseback.

Let your horse guide you along ancient trails and goat tracks past olive groves and into forested hills. Follow the path that takes you around Lake Kournas, or canter along one of western Crete’s sandy beaches.
