HOLIDAY bookings to Majorca have jumped following the news of the coronavirus vaccine being rolled out next week.
The rollout, which will first prioritise care homes and NHS workers, has provided hope for holidays to resume next year.
According to ABTA, bookings jumped by 30 per cent shortly after the approval of the Pfizer vaccine was announced by the government.
A local tour operator explained: "Most of the reservations were made for summer 2021, but with discounts on offer for March, April and May we are predicting that the tourist season will be better in 2021, even although it will still be around 50 per cent less than 2019.
"The positive thing is that it will be a big improvement on this year.”
ABTA added: "This shows that there is a desire to travel when there is security to do so, as in the case with the vaccine."
It is too early to say how the vaccine will affect holidays, with many destinations still requiring negative coronavirus tests or quarantines on arrival.
However, there are some great deals on offer for families wanting to book a holiday to the Balearic Islands next year.
TUI has seven-night package holidays, including luggage, transfers and return flights, from £197pp to Majorca.
EasyJet also has package holidays to Majorca next summer from £218pp, along with Jet2, with holidays from £353pp.
Families are urged to book their holidays now, with experts warning holiday prices will only go up after the vaccine.
The Balearic Islands currently requires a negative Covid test before arrival, and holidaymakers face a two-week quarantine when returning to the UK.
This is also in place for the rest of Spain including the Canaries, which is on the UK's travel corridor list.
We've explained how to get a negative coronavirus test for your next holiday, as you cannot get them through the NHS.
They must be done privately, which can cost up to £200, although airlines and airports are launching their own versions at a reduced price.
