WE are surrounded by trees, birds singing and ducks gliding across the lake. Welcome to the heavenly hub of Haven’s Wild Duck holiday park.
For me and my young family, a few nights here, nestled close to the sandy beaches of Gorleston in Norfolk, tick every box for an enjoyable break.
Over a recent four-day stay, the natural woodland setting played tranquil host to our accommodation — a three-bed lodge with two bathrooms, plus kitchen and lounge, complete with all the mod cons.
Our veranda overlooked one of many play areas which kept my two daughters entertained as my wife and I enjoyed a glass of wine.
But while the luxury lodges have all the tools for a comfy and quiet night in, there is plenty to tempt all ages to venture out.
The main centre of the park features a theatre, amusements, fish and chip shop, supermarket and a restaurant called The Sitting Duck.
All dietary requirements are catered for — especially those with a fondness for big ice creams.
But the cherry on the top with Haven is that there is as much entertainment going on during the day as there is at night. Kids really are spoilt for choice.
If they love to get wet, they will have a splashing time with heated indoor and outdoor pools. My own water babies loved kayaking, aqua paddlers and aqua gliders.
And they bubbled over with enthusiasm for the aqua jets, not to mention the pool party, which is essentially one large floating assault course. The girls grabbed a hand-held yellow motor and happily hovered across the indoor pool like something out of a James Bond film.
But if your youngsters do not take like a duck to water with such activities, there is plenty happening back on dry land.
Our little ones got stuck in with nest-building and nature trails, courtesy of the park’s Nature Rockz team. Others were flying high as they launched into archery, fencing, crazy golf and more.
Meanwhile, evening entertainment, offering everything from shows to quizzes and dancing, kept the fans flocking.
As well as the lodges, there are plenty of caravans and glamping tents to choose from for a three, four or seven-day stay at the Wild Duck.
Or pitch your own tent, with a toilet and shower block nearby.
This winter, the park — just south of Great Yarmouth — will be one of many Havens across the UK feathering its nest as part of a £100million investment programme.
You’d be quackers to duck out of a holiday like this.
