LEGENDARY Pontins has announced it is closing two of its iconic holiday parks, leaving Brits heartbroken.

Parents are devastated the pair of family favourite vacation spots are set to be gone for good.



Pontins said its Welsh site at Prestatyn, Denbighshire would shut "with immediate effect", with another of its parks at Camber Sands in East Sussex also due to close straight away.

The British holiday park operator said on its website: "Customers whose bookings will be affected by these closures will be contacted by our team and refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Vale of Clwyd MP James Davies said the closure was "unexpected" and he had no idea why the north Wales park had to meet such a tragic end, adding that he hoped whatever comes next to the area can help benefit the town.

The area's Senedd member, Gareth Davies, had a similar upset tone as he reacted to the "sad and sudden" announcement on X, formerly Twitter.

He wrote: "My thoughts are with the staff, their families and all involved with Pontins Prestatyn at this difficult time."

Many parents said they were "heartbroken" by the news as others remembered happy moments on their holidays to Pontins.

One said: "My kids loved it there."

As another Pontins lover said: "This is sad.. got some good memories here with the kiddies."

Record label Tidy Trax had been planning to hold a "wet and wild weekender" at the Welsh site and said it was "shocked and concerned" by the horrible update that came as a big surprise.

Pontins now have just three holiday parks left across the UK but are still loved by thousands of kids and their parents.

Parks in Suffolk, Somerset and Ainsdale remain open to the public for holiday fun with all the family.

It comes after Pontins' Brean Sands resort in Somerset was revealed to be closing down for three years to undergo a major refurbishment which will see upgrades to its 600 chalets and to its Wifi.

The site will be used as accommodation by workers at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the meantime, as construction continues on a new nuclear power plant due to open by 2027.
