The European hotspot with the most sunlight hours – and flights are just £12 | The Sun

A HOLIDAY hotspot in Portugal has been named as Europe's sunniest destination – and Brits can bag flights for just over a tenner.

Brits who head abroad for their summer holidays often want the sunshine guaranteed.

Recent research from Club Med has revealed the best destinations to visit in Europe where Brits can head for a sunny break.

The list of Europe's sunniest destinations was created after analysing the number of sunlight hours each day, average temperatures, rainfall levels, and sea temperatures.

At the top of the list is Faro in Portugal, which has 11 hours of sunshine every day during the summer and average temperatures of 24C too.

The Algarve capital is also the only destination in Europe to have an average of zero rainy days during the summer.

Cheap European seaside is set to become top holiday destination for Brits

If you fancy a visit, there are some amazing beaches to be found off the coast of Faro too, which are almost empty outside of the summer months.

And the news keeps on getting better for Brits, as we've found flights to Faro for just £12 each way.

Ryanair operates direct flights from London Stansted to Faro, which take just under three hours.

A return journey with the budget airline can be snapped up for less than £30.

Athens took the second spot on the list of Europe's sunniest destinations, according to the study.

The Greek capital also has 11 hours of sunshine each day but it does have an average of one rainy day during the summer months.

Marbella in Spain is already popular with Brit holidaymakers who are after some summer sun, and featured too.

The Spanish hotspot also has 11 hours of sunshine during the summer but has more rainy days than both Faro and Portugal combined.

Palermo in Sicily and Dubrovnik in Croatia are also fairly sunny, although have more rainy days than the other top spots.

So it's safe to say that sunshine isn't always guaranteed in those destinations.

If you don't fancy heading to any of the above, Bodrum in Turkey, London, Bordeaux, and Copenhagen also have plenty of sunny days too.

Last year, research revealed the best places to visit in the UK in order to avoid the rain.

The list, produced by Evans Halshaw, was created after analysing weather data for over 1,000 popular UK holiday destinations in order to work out where has the most hours of sunlight.
