TikTok flight attendant lists the items you should never consume on a plane

A FLIGHT attendant on TikTok has shared the things you should never ask for on a plane when travelling.

Cabin crew member Kat Kamalani said to never ask for anything using hot water, such as coffee or tea.

She explained that this was because the tanks are never cleaned – and are right by the toilets.

She said on her TikTok account: "The reason being is that those water tanks are never cleaned and they are disgusting.

"So talk to a flight attendant, we rarely, rarely drink the tea or coffee, they come from the same water tank and so when you're drinking that coffee and tea it comes from that hot water and it's absolutely disgusting."

Instead, she said to only ask for things in bottles such as bottled water or soft drinks.

She also went on to explain how parents can get around this problem, with many asking to use hot water to clean their babies bottles during a flight.

To avoid this, she said to ask for a cup of hot water and a bottle of water, and to put the cold water in the bottle before putting it into the cup, so it heats up from the outside.

The video has been watched more than 165k times, although many said it was gross that they weren't cleaned.

One person wrote: "You guys should clean them, seriously thats messed up."

However, many hit back saying not only did flight crew not have time, due to quick turnarounds being flights, but that many of them were not accesible without disasembling them.

Not all cabin crew agreed: "This doesn't apply to all airlines. In our airline I can attest that they are really cleaning them."

Another person added: "I've been a flight attendant for 18 years the hot water is fine," although warned that they never drank it cold.

Charles Platkin, a professor of nutrition and the executive director of the Food Policy Center, previously told The New York Post: “Planes come in, [and the tanks are] not being emptied and cleaned, because there is no time for that.

"The water tank is being filled on top [after] each usage. Whatever would be on the bottom stays there and sits there.”

Even Gordan Ramsay, who has worked with airlines on their food, warned to never eat anything on a flight.

A different flight attendant warned passengers against using plane blankets and pillows.

Of the blankets, former crew member Jamila Hardwick said: "These get washed, but we're not sure how great they get washed."

And as for the pillows, she added: "They take the off the lining and wash it, but the pillow inside is still dirty."
