NEXT time you book a hotel, you should look a bit closer than the ratings.
Experts have warned that just because they say they are five star, doesn't mean they are.
Experts at NetVoucherCodes said: “Found a ‘too good to be true’ deal on a five star hotel’? The likelihood is that it’s too good to be true.
“Hotel ratings aren’t standardised worldwide and many are just an indicator of the facilities rather than the quality."
They also said that "package tour operators tend to be the most overly generous offering a star higher".
While looking at the reviews is often the best way to find out if a hotel is really the star rating they say, there are some criteria that five star hotels must follow.
According to luxury travel company Five Star Alliance, a true five star hotel should have a concierge service on offer, for at least 16 hours per day, as well as a 24-hour reception.
There should also be a doorman, butler and valet parking available, as well as child care options.
Other services they should offer also include luggage storage and daily housekeeping services, as well as airport transfers.

Within the rooms they should have amenities such as dressing gowns and slippers as well as a stocked mini bar, WiFi, pillow menu and daily newspapers.
Some five star hotels even have secret VIP rooms which are hidden from regular customers, reserved for celebs.
You also shouldn't always trust the pictures, according to one boutique hotel owner.
Andy and Julian Banner-Price, owners of The 25 B&B in Torquay, have won a number of awards over the years, including being the Best B&B in the World according to TripAdvisor for two years running.
Speaking to Sun Online Travel, they explained what guests should look out for when booking a stay.

They explained: "Always look at the photos guests took. B&Bs always use the best angles but the best pictures are from the guests.
"If I see mouldy silicone in the shower in the guest reviews, I move on immediately. Do your research first."
They also explained why even if the hotel has fancy pictures of the room, it is always best to see what they are leaving out as this can be more telling.
