Fall's Biggest Piercing Trends Are All About Asymmetry, and It's About Damn Time

Fall’s Coolest Piercing Trends Are Anything but “Perfect” — and That’s Precisely the Point

Clinically speaking, the standard science of “attractiveness” is measured only by your facial symmetry. We say? Get the hell out of that clinic. In fact, the trend du jour when it comes to everything from haircuts to ear piercings is all about the opposite. With the latter category, especially this Fall, things don’t have to be perfect to be deemed “pretty” (and thank god for that).

“We’re currently seeing people play with asymmetry much more in earring placement, especially on their earlobes,” said Janeese Brooks, head piercer at Piercings Y’all by Stone and Strand. “As part of this trend, ‘high’ earlobe piercings, right at the tip of the earlobe close to the cartilage, are becoming really popular, and they are being worn without a ‘traditional’ second hole or even first lobe piercings. I love this trend because it gives the wearer the opportunity to keep it classic or get imaginative with their jewelry options, and in addition, it leaves room for whatever they may do next.”

Ahead, Brooks is breaking down other piercing trends you’ll be seeing everywhere this season. What can you expect? Cool placements! Colorful jewelry! Bending the rules a bit is proving to be the just-right formula this Fall. (See? Sometimes science can be fun.)
