Few haircuts have permeated recent mainstream culture in such a huge way as the curtain bang (although the currently-trending wolf cut is definitely coming a close second). A contemporary iteration of the style Farrah Fawcett, Goldie Hawn and Brigitte Bardot made famous throughout the 60s and 70s, curtain bangs are (as the name suggests) a fringe that separates like a curtain being pulled open. They’re sometimes also referred to as a ‘gringe’ – which, quite simply, is a shortened way of saying ‘grown out fringe’ – which sounds weirdly chic, no?
Draped across the forehead, curtain bangs – or a gringe – can be customised to suit your face shape and hair type. Whether you choose long, short, heavy or cut into to create lightness and fluffy volume is totally down to your own personal preference. Then, when it comes to the all-important styling, curtain bangs can be rolled towards the face or swept away. They can be curly, straight, coily or wavy, proving that this really is one of the most universal of styles.
