Watch This Guy Train and Eat Like a Pro Bodybuilder for a Day

Bodybuilder training is a full-time job. You’re tuning the machine that is your body for maximum performance. And that means doing a lot of things that would seem strange in any other situation. Things such as, say, eating seven meals a day.

Toronto-based YouTuber Will Tennyson, who you may recall has previously tried Christian Bale’s American Psycho workout and Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman workout, wanted to experience a day in the life of a pro bodybuilder before competition. Specifically, he decided to follow the regimen of fellow Canadian and IFBB pro Renaldo Gairy.

With his dog looking on, Tennyson jumped into Gairy’s routine. The man himself appears to explain his training and diet, which he starts about six weeks out from a competition. He opens with a cardio session, usually around 35 minutes.

Then he hits his first meal of the day: a cup and a half of oatmeal with hemp seeds, eight egg whites, and six to eight ounces of chicken.

For Tennyson, that’s a big meal. He also admits he’s not used to eating at nine in the morning; he prefers to wait until two PM or so. Finishing up the chicken and eggs, he picks up the oatmeal with visible dread, saying it looks “dense as hell,” and it’s going to be sitting in his stomach for the rest of the day. He also needs to take a long list of supplements that he helpfully posts includes in the video.

That’s just the first meal—of seven. Tennyson calculates the nutrient-dense and protein-rich food adds up to more than 4,000 calories a day. As a reward for making it through all that food, he ends the day working out with Gairy, who takes him through a challenging medley of giant and super sets.
