The One Show presenter Alex Jones, 44, has taken to social media to reveal that her children were “upset” after waking up this morning and not understanding why their mum wasn’t there, after she spent the night in a hotel for work. The favourite BBC host shares sons Kit, one and Teddy, four, with husband Charlie Thomson, and is expecting a baby girl later this year after revealing her pregnancy on The One Show last month.

Taking to her Instagram stories, the Welsh presenter shared a snap of herself enjoying a relaxing bath.

She wrote: “Stayed at a hotel for work last night for the first time in over a year.”

While the mum-of-two admitted that she enjoyed the alone time, she went on to relay how sons Kit and Teddy were upset due to her absence at home.

She explained: “Nice to have a full night’s sleep and a quiet bath this morning but FaceTimed the poor little bears at home and they were so upset because they can’t understand why I’m not there.”

Alex followed the caption with a crying face emoji and hashtag, “#EffectsOfThePandemic”

Alex previously told Express.co.uk how she juggles looking after her two boys while presenting the BBC magazine show.

She said: “With two small children, the fact that I can be with them in the morning and then go and do a job in the afternoon that’s literally 30 minutes away in the car is perfect.

“I can be home in 25 minutes so I can put my kids to sleep.”

She added: “I have the morning with the children as they’re not at school, so I feel like I’ve got a really good work life balance.”

The BBC favourite’s social media admission comes just hours after she confirmed exciting The One Show news yesterday.

In view of her 294,000 followers, she reacted to the news that Ronan Keating, 44, and former Tottenham Hotspur player Jermaine Jenas, 38, will be permanent hosts and will therefore be replacing former presenter Matt Baker.

Matt left the iconic green sofa last year, after nine years of presenting next to Alex.

She penned: “BREAKING NEWS…..We’re delighted to welcome @rokeating and @jjenas to the One Show team as my new co hosts.

“It’s been lovely to get to know them both over the last year and we know our audience will enjoy getting to know them even more over the coming year.

“Some of our favourites like @rylan @alexscott2 @mrmichaelball and @amolrajan (who’s with me tonight) are still very much part of the family and you’ll still see a lot of these fantastic presenters.

“Exciting times ahead!!! #newera,” she added.

The BBC announced that from May 10, Alex will feature alongside Jermaine on a Monday through to Wednesday, while Ronan will take the reins on Thursdays and Fridays.

Speaking of his new role on the programme, Jermaine said: “I’ve absolutely loved being a part of The One Show, Alex, the team and the viewers have made me feel so welcome and we’ve had a lot of fun already.

“I’m really looking forward to joining as a full-time host alongside Ronan.”

Ronan, who currently presents his own show on Magic Radio, added: “I’m so delighted to officially be a part of The One Show family.

“It’s a show I’ve loved for many years as both a guest and a host and I can’t wait to get started alongside Alex, Jermaine and the wonderful team behind the scenes.”
