Michael B Jordan has been named People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2020.
The Black Panther star has taken over the honour from John Legend for the 35th anniversary of the ranking, and we doubt there’ll be too many people angry about People’s choice.
The 33-year-old was unveiled as the Sexiest Man Alive on Jimmy Kimmel Live, emerging on the show in a hazmat suit with a smiley face drawn on the head covering.
Members of the home audience asked yes or no questions to identify the man under the suit – asking if he worked in film, if he was one of the Avengers, if he was married if he had a celebrity family member, if he had ever dated Taylor Swift, if he had over 5 million Instagram followers, if he played Aquaman, if he was known for being funny and if he had any children.
In the end it was LA native Ashley that guessed correctly that it was Michael under that hazmat suit.
Jimmy joked: ‘He’s sexy, he’s alive’ – which are pretty much the only qualifications needed for the title.

The Fruitvale Station star said it was a ‘cool feeling’ to be named Sexiest Man Alive, saying: ‘You know, everybody always made that joke, like, “Mike, this is the one thing you’re probably not going to get.” But it’s a good club to be a part of.’
He said that the women in his family are ‘are definitely proud of this one’, explaining: ‘When my grandmother was alive, it was something that she collected, and then my mom naturally reads it a lot and my aunts as well. This is one that they’re definitely going to have a special place for.’
People cited Michael getting ripped to play Adonis Creed in 2015’s Creed and his role as villain Killmonger in 2018’s Black Panther as two of their favourite roles, but also commended his work off the screen.
The star has been active in the Black Lives Matter movement and the US presidential election, and his company Outlier Society Productions was one of the first to adopt an inclusion rider, stipulating that filmmakers hire a diverse cast and crew.
The profile also stated that Michael is single – so there’s still hope for us all.
The actor first made a name for himself in shows like The Wire and All My Children, but gained critical attention in 2013 when he starred in Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station.
Michael will next appear as a former Navy SEAL turned CIA operative in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, which he also produces, and is hoping to turn his attention to producing and directing in the future.
Mel Gibson was the first celebrity to be named Sexiest Man Alive at the age of 29 back in 1985, and since then, 32 men have been given the honour.
Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, George Clooney and Richard Gere have all won twice, while in 1993, Gere and Cindy Crawford were named the Sexiest Couple Alive.
Michael is the fourth star of the MCU to be honoured – Bradley Cooper, who voices Rocket, won in 2011, Thor star Chris Hemsworth won in 2014, and Idris Elba, who played Heimdall, was named Sexiest Man Alive in 2018.
