The ‘Under the Influence’ singer makes use of his Instagram account to seemingly mock the award-giving event for its bad TV ratings after his planned gig at the show was canceled.
AceShowbiz -Things could have been different if Chris Brown took the stage to perform at the 2022 American Music Awards on Sunday, November 20. The “Under the Influence” singer made use of his Instagram account to seemingly mock the award-giving event for its bad TV ratings after his performance was canceled.
In an Instagram Story on Monday, Breezy shared a screenshot of an article about the ratings for ABC’s AMas. “In the latest TV ratings, ABC’s presentation of the American Music Awards on Sunday night averaged just 3.3 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, down sharply from last year’s early numbers (3.8 million/1.0) to mark all-time lows,” the article read.
Chris wrote nothing, though he left a face-palming face emoji. In a follow-up post, the “Call Me Every Day” singer re-shared a video of him rehearsing for the AMAs while writing, “I’ll just leave it here.”
Some Internet users supported Chris, with one of them writing, “I would have watched if he was performing… but they canceled him so I canceled watching.” Another person opined, “Chris was the ONLY reason to watch tbh!”
“I truly don’t watch award shows because Chris Brown don’t perform,” one other user added. “Period!!! Didn’t watch a lick of it!! Y’all knew of his past mistakes prior to asking him to perform and Michael wasn’t found guilty of anything! Anything to try and tarnish these black men’s accomplishments …every week it’s someone else,” someone wrote, referring to Chris’ planned AMas tribute to Michael Jackson that got his performance axed.
Breezy’s posts arrived after it was reportedly the higher ups at Disney and ABC that were against the tribute. They allegedly didn’t like the “prospect of a convicted domestic abuser feting an alleged child molester” on a Disney network. The executives quickly told the producers to scrap the tribute as a whole, prompting a conflict with the producers.
Following negotiation, it was then decided that Chris could still perform at this year’s AMAs but without the Michael Jackson tribute as the executives deemed it “too radioactive.” Chris, however, would rather not perform at all than have the tribute cut.
Prior to this, Chris put the AMAs on blast for scrapping his MJ tribute performance for “unknown” reasons. Expressing his disappointment over the canceled gig, he wrote in one of his Instagram posts alongside the rehearsal clip, “U SERIOUS?” He then added in the comment section, “WOULD’VE been the AMA performance but they cancelled me for reasons unknown.”
