The comedian admits he has written down “loads of stuff” from the dance competition – but now deeply regrets not referencing it in his tour title.
The married father of one said he considered naming the tour, which begins in March, after his dance experience but feared being voted off early in the BBC One series.
He never thought he would be a contender on last night’s semi-final – where he danced two numbers with pro partner Karen Hauer – and says he will probably “pass out on live telly” if he wins.
Chris, 33, said: “I was going to call the tour something to do with Strictly, something like The Twinkle Toes Tour, but I was so convinced I would be out by week two.
“I thought it would be really embarrassing to call it after a show I wasn’t in for very long and I am devastated now.” Talking about his 2020 shows, Chris added: “I’ve written loads of stuff down about everything that happened. I won’t be doing anything about gossip, I’ll be doing things about stuff that happened to me.”
But one person not so keen to hear his jokes is his dance partner Karen. She has banned him from joking around in rehearsals.
Karen admitted: “Whenever he tells a joke I just ignore it and say, ‘You have to step on your heels, pull your frame up and pull your belly in.’”
The comic, from South Shields, near Newcastle upon Tyne, said a highlight was meeting singer and X Factor judge Cheryl backstage.
“She said ‘Eeeh Chris, you are doing so well’. We’d not met but I felt like I knew her. It was her North-east accent. I was buzzing,” he said.
