First photo of teenage girl killed in late-night horror crash when car hit tree

A teenage girl killed when the car she was in slammed into a tree has been named.

Abbie O'Rourke was a passenger in a silver Toyota Aygo which crashed into a tree after veering off the road.

The 18-year-old, from Southampton, Hants, was rushed to hospital following the single-vehicle collision but later died.

Two other passengers and the driver also suffered injuries in the crash in Southampton on Thursday.

Officers from Hampshire Police are currently appealing for witnesses to establish the "exact circumstances" of the collision, which took place just before 9pm.

A force spokesman said: "Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the silver Aygo in the Hamble area prior to the incident.

"The family has asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time."

Emma, 40, who lives on Sylvan Lane right next to School Lane, where the crash happened, told the Southern Daily Echo: "There was flashing lights everywhere, it's so sad, I feel awful for the families of those involved.

"That road is notorious for people driving so fast, it was only a matter of time before something terrible like this happens."
