Christie Brinkley Pulls Out of 'Dancing With the Stars' Because Her Arm Broke "Into a 1,000 Pieces"

I’ve been fortunate enough to avoid breaking a bone in my body, but I did sprain my ankle once, and it was quite honestly some of the worst pain that I’ve ever experienced. That’s part of why my heart goes out to Christie Brinkley, who had to pull out of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars last night because of an injury. The whole story is pretty sad 😞.

Just hours before the season 28 premiere of DWTS, Christie shattered her arm and needed to have an emergency surgery to repair the damage she suffered ahead of her live performance. Her daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, was kind enough to fill her mother’s shoes and dance in her place. But of course, Christie was still super heartbroken about her inability to perform on the show.

Earlier today, Christie went on Instagram to explain exactly what happened to her. “I just broke my arm into a 1000 pieces requiring surgery with a metal plate and screws to hold my arm together..I’m so sorry!” Christie wrote. “Only something like that cold stop me from continuing to dance with my wonderful coach…I was having a blast! It was quite literally a crushing disappointment.”

Despite the pain that she’s in, Christie is happy that Sailor will be filling in for her, going as far as calling it a gold (not silver) lining. “Sailor always meets her challenges head on and realized she did not want to be defined by her fears so with just hours to learn my routine, she is turning my defeat—or should I say two left feat—into her own victory of courage!” Christie added. “So ladies and gents, I give you my beautiful daughter, Sunflower Sailor Lee. And I think you are all going to have a blast together.”

“We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor,” ABC and BBC Studios said in a statement, which was really kind on their behalf. I’m sincerely hoping that Christie gets well soon!
