BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker took to social media this morning to wish his co-host Louise Minchin a very happy birthday before revealing that he will not be by her side on the show today. The 44-year-old TV star admitted that he was “deserting” the birthday girl in order to take part in a golfing event.

Dan informed fans that he is competing in the BMW PGA Pro-Am Championship at Wentworth golf club this morning.

The event sees a host of celebrities, including Spiderman actor Tom Holland and Olympic stars Sam Quek and Denise Lewis, go head to head.

It also features fellow TV presenters Helen Skelton, Ronan Keating and Vernon Kay to name a few.

Dan also said he had some “Strictly stuff” to do ahead of the launch of the 2021 series next week.

“Happy birthday to the magnificent @louiseminchin… who I have deserted to play in the @BMWPGA pro am and do some #Strictly stuff [grimacing face and laughing emoji] #BBCBreakfast,” he tweeted, in view of his 722,800 followers.

“Shame! Missing Lou’s last birthday shift!” one follower remarked.

Meanwhile, others took to the comments section of his post to send the presenter well wishes.

“Happy Birthday @louiseminchin have an amazing day,” a second added.

Dan also included an amusing picture of the pair.

The duo could be seen with crazy hair which was standing on air.

Over on her own Twitter account, Louise, who turns 53 today, shared a picture of a beautiful bouquet of flowers that she had received this morning.

“Thanks too, to the person who sent me these, what a lovely way to brighten up my birthday and the make-up room,” she wrote alongside the snap.

Fellow TV star Robert Rinder, 43, also known as Judge Rinder, was the first to wish Louise a happy birthday, sharing a photo with the birthday girl with her post.

“Happy Birthday Louise ‘Bad***’ Minchin,” he wrote before adding an inspirational quote.

“You have to fight through some bad days to earn the best days of your life.”

“I love that @RobbieRinder is always first, thank you I will always treasure this picture,” she replied, while sharing the post with her 217,100 followers.

“Happy birthday Lou, they’re gorgeous, you’re gorgeous! we’re so going to miss you though,” one social media user replied to her previous post.

“Happy Birthday Louise. So sad that your leaving. I honestly don’t know how I will cope without you. Such a calm voice, and character,”(sic) another added.

Earlier this year, Louise announced that she was leaving the BBC show after almost 20 years.

Her last day will be next Wednesday.

Jon Kay stepped in to present today’s BBC Breakfast with Louise in Dan’s absence.
