EastEnders’ Kyle Slater actor Riley Carter looks worlds away from first appearance on soap

Riley Carter has undergone an impressive weight loss transformation and looks worlds away from his time on EastEnders.

Riley made his acting debut in 2015 and starred in the hit BBC show for a year as Kyle Slater – making history as the first trans actor to play a trans character in a British soap.

Since leaving the show, Riley has shed several pounds and looks fitter and healthier than ever.

In a snap shared on Instagram, the actor posted two photos next to one another to demonstrate the difference.

He penned next to the snaps: “You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending."

Riley also shared a clip back in 2020 of him wearing a vest and shorts as he showcased his toned physique.

As well and undergoing an undeniably impressive transformation since leaving EastEnders, Riley has recently returned to our screens in Channel 4’s prison drama, Screw. Similar to his role in EastEnders, Riley’s new character is also trans.

Discussing the part withPink News, he said: “From the start, [writer Rob Williams] was interested in trying to get a fair portrayal. I had conversations with him regarding how to word things. One of the lines I say is about stuffing socks in my underwear, and originally the line was about putting fruit down my knickers. I was just like: that’s so tacky, I wouldn’t have walked around with a banana down my pants.”

“I understood what he was trying to do, but I told him that a sock is more realistic and explained what packing was,” Riley continued.

“That’s why it’s great to be able to have that input. When writers and directors and producers are willing to have these conversations it shows they care and are committed to portraying these characters in the most realistic kind of light.”

In the wake of bagging the role, Riley took to Instagram to reflect on how far his acting career has come.

Sharing a photo of himself in EastEnders next to his Screw character, Riley wrote: “Top pic. Aged 21. Left university for my first acting job, a regular role in EastEnders, pursuing my acting career. Young and so much to learn in the industry. Several roles in between tv, theatre and voiceovers.

“Bottom. 6 years later. A recent role. Older, not much wiser but still in the field & so grateful for every opportunity I get to practice the craft I love and the chances I get to work and meet some amazing people.”

The actor went on to describe himself as being “blessed indeed”.
