How ‘sporty’ William and Kate have inspired George, Charlotte and Louis

The Prince and Princess of Wales are loved the world over for their competitive spirit when it comes to public engagements – especially when there is a sport involved.

Whether it's table tennis, sailing or a race on exercise bikes, the couple never shy away from a sporting challenge.

As well as going head to head, the pair often have the crowds in stitches as they support different teams. As the patron of the Rugby Football Union, Kate was caught grinning at Prince William – who is the Patron of Welsh Rugby – as England won in a 2022 Six Nations Rugby match.

And this passion has been passed down to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis who all love a wide range of different exercises.

Prince George

Prince George is certainly taking after his parents with his love for a number of sports. Just like his dad Prince William, Prince George is a keen football fan and is often spotted cheering on the Aston Villa team from the stands.

As well as football, George is taking to rugby as his mum previously revealed that he just started learning how to tackle during a visit to Twickenham Stadium.

The young royal was introduced to officials and joked with his mum as he said: "But I haven't tackled you yet!" Kate replied with a laugh: "Yes, you have!" Earlier this year, George also joined his father at Lord's Cricket Ground for the Ashes 2nd Test match between England and Australia.

Another sport that George clearly shows a talent for is tennis after it emerged that Federer had been invited to the Middleton family home in Bucklebury to give the young prince a private lesson.

Federer went on to confirm that he was invited to Carole and Michael Middleton’s home to give the second-in-line to the throne a tennis lesson when he described George as a 'sweet boy', adding that he was already showing great skills as a player.

"At that stage it's all about just touching the ball, it's already good. Same with my boys," Roger said. "I think I have a little advantage that I actually spent some time, you know, with him. I'm the only player he's ever met. Then you have a little head start on who is your favourite player."

Revealing his hopes that George would maintain his enthusiasm for the sport as he grows up, Roger said: "I love to see that they're into tennis or into sports … his mum has always enjoyed their tennis … I hope that he'll still say the same in a few years' time."

Princess Charlotte

Princess Charlotte memorably joined her parents and elder brother at Wimbledon recently to watch Carlos Alcaraz champion over Novak Djokovic, proving that she has also inherited Kate's love of the sport.

The Princess previously attended the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year where she watched the swimming, various gymnastics exercises and the hockey. When asked later in the day, Charlotte revealed her favourite sport is gymnastics.

Prince William also revealed that his daughter is a keen football player. During a visit to St George's Park to meet the England Lionesses, William passed on a message from Charlotte.

He told Captain Leah Williamson: “Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she’s really good in goal. She said, ‘Please tell them that’. Budding star for the future!”

Prince Louis

As for boisterous Prince Louis, the Princess of Wales has joked that her youngest son is very fast on his feet as she previously said: "I can't keep up with him. Louis has got so big now, he’s very quick running around and he’s on his little scooter as well. He’s very quick. I can’t keep up with him."

At a separate engagement where the Princess was introduced as the new patron of the Rugby Football Union, she laughed about her fears for Louis playing the sport. “They’re all enjoying it, Louis is kamikaze, we’re worrying about when he gets older, he’ll be in the middle of everything,” she said.

Just like his brother and sister, Louis is clearly starting to enjoy tennis as Kate revealed that he was upset not to join them for their recent visit to Wimbledon after he had been practicing his skills as a ball boy.

Aside from rugby and tennis, Prince Louis will have many sporting options to choose from at his school as Lambrook offers clubs in the likes of mountain biking, fencing, judo, scuba diving, squash, ballet, tap dancing, golf, polo and skiing!
