But, according to Netizen Buzz, fans have reacted badly to the news and his open letter.
One fan wrote: “I loved the Kang Daniel that chased after his dream even while having nothing, who was so innocent, so passionate. I don’t think that Daniel exists anymore.
“Not just because he’s dating a woman but because he’s lost his roots and has fallen to the celebrity disease. I give up. Have fun with the fans still left shielding you.”
Another said: “Does he even want to be a singer? He seems more interested in the riches than the music.”
And a third commented: “He had the opportunity to earn millions of millions but blew it over his girlfriend.”
Kang Daniel was port of idol group Wanna One, which was formed on the second season of X Factor-style reality show Produce 101 in 2017.
The group, made up of 11 winning male idols, debuted on August 7, 2017, and promoted for just over a year.
Meanwhile, Jihyo rose so stardom as one ninth of TWICE in 2015, after competition show Sixteen.
Late last year, TWICE’s three-year dating ban was lifted, meaning they would be free to date without consequences from their agency JYP Entertainment.
