Katy Perry Goes New Age Tech Hippie For The Video For "Never Really Over"

The faded, grimy Southern California of the late 1960s – so hot right now! Katy Perry must have thought so, because last night she dropped the video for her new song “Never Really Over.” Why else would she serve vintage caftan realness, Clairol hot rollers, and some “Let me read your aura.

According to the press release that went out with the launch of the video, “Never Really Over” is about how you’re never really done with a person, even if you called it quits. Anyone who has ever sprinted to the bathroom to brush their teeth and throw a damp washcloth across their business after receiving a “U up?” text at 2am from an ex knows how true that is.

“All of our relationships – from first love, through failed love, to great love – all become a part of you, so that none are ever really over, and once you accept both the dark and the light, you may find that the darkness brought you to the light.”

The song, which was produced by Zedd, is all about Katy hooking up with an ex. John Mayer’s ears just perked up. The video begins with Katy Perry doing what you should NEVER do, which is getting into a white van. She’s then whisked away to a hippie hipster compound.

Katy starts off looking like a San Diego MILF before she drinks the Kool-Aid, which in this trippy mess looks like it could be La Croix mixed with Fabuloso. There’s a lot of pastel lace, sheer dirty orange fabric, and avocado green polyester. It looks like Katy Perry hired the Brady Bunch as art directors.

After growing some heart-shaped apples in old tall-neck soda bottles and getting matching Miss You tattoos, Katy and her fellow hippies start whipping around in an open field like they’re auditioning for a Polyphonic Spree tribute act. It’s what Hair Live! would look like if it happened.
