Katya Jones deleted Twitter due to trolling but her defensive last tweets remain

Strictly Come Dancing's Katya Jones says she was forced to delete Twitter after vicious trolls attacked her on the social media app.

The professional dancer received a barrage of criticism after she made several mistakes in her routines this series, leading to accusations that she was "drunk".

Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Tuesday, she said of dancing partner Mike Bushall : "No matter what, he came in every Monday smiling and just like, 'Right, I have got to put another fight on'.

"He was absolutely brilliant. In the beginning there were hard days, just people saying things.

"I just deleted Twitter and that was brilliant after that.

"When it's not in front of you, it doesn't exist.

"So I just got rid of it."

Though she may have deleted the app from her phone, her account is still up and it shows her last few tweets were desperate attempts to defend herself.

One is in response to a now deleted tweet which appeared to have accused Katya of being unprofessional.

She wrote: "Please can you name each time acted acting “unprofessionally lately? [sic]“, demanding the troll prove themselves.

Katya also defended herself against someone who had accused her of "shaking her head" when the other couples scored highly.

She wrote: "Nothing to see there. Maybe you are just not 'looking for things' like some others do, but enjoying the brilliant show."

To another user she shot back: "Again. If you can’t read minds please don’t comment. I was shaking my head in disbelief of their low scores."

Another user slammed Katya for "playing to the camera", to which she responded: "I’ve done it every year. Can’t help but to be excited for my celebs to make it through to next week. Apologise if that’s wrong".

And when Katya fell on stage during a dance with Mike, and then poked fun at herself by reenacting the fall, another user accused her of being drunk.

"Do you REALLY think that's true?", Katya implored back.

And Mike also received terrifying death threats, with one anonymous person telling him to quit the show or he was a "dead man".

Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards, Mike said: "I get that people have their own favourite dancers but it's an entertainment show at the end of the day and to get a death threat is ridiculous.

"My wife saw it first and when I went to see who had sent it, they had already removed the tweet. A death threat? What?! On Strictly?

"You rise above it but it's people being cowardly isn't it? The show is meant to be happy, make people feel happy."

Mike and Katya were eliminated in Saturday's show after losing in the dance off against Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice.
