Kevin Clifton announced his departure from Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 after seven years of performing as a dancer on the popular BBC series. The Grimsby-born star planned to take on more theatrical roles before Covid-19 had halted his plans.

The 38-year-old has since confessed that he would love to return to Strictly but not as a professional dancer.

Kevin revealed he would consider joining the Strictly panel as a show judge in the future.

The ballroom champion, who lifted the Glitterball Trophy alongside Stacey Dooley in 2018, admitted it would be “cool” to front Strictly’s spin-off show It Takes Two but has set his sights on the judging panel.

Speaking about presenting, Kevin commented: “That would be really cool.

“I would love to come back to Strictly in a different capacity, maybe as a judge or something like that.

“But right now, everything is theatre. For the next couple of years, I’ll be busy with theatre so that is my focus right now.”

Kevin also addressed Zoe Ball quitting the spin-off series on Strictly It Takes Two.

Earlier this month, she announced her departure from the BBC show which is broadcast every weekday evening during Strictly’s run, since 2011.

After a decade on the programme, Zoe shared she would be “waltzing away from It Takes Two”.

Addressing the presenter’s exit, Kevin admitted: “Yeah, I was [surprised]. I had no idea that was going to happen. I love It Takes Two. It was one of the best bits.

“And Zoe was brilliant on the show. I love Zoe.”

He continued: “I texted Zoe just to say, ‘thank you,’.

“We’re a bunch of ballroom dancers and when we find ourselves on Strictly Come Dancing with millions of people watching on TV at that point we don’t always know how to act in front of a camera.”

Kevin added: “I think people like Zoe, Tess [Daly] and Claudia [Winkleman] and everyone on It Takes Two they all made us all feel comfortable.

“Zoe’s always made us feel comfortable. She was always fun and let us all have a moment to shine on the show as well. She was brilliant with all.”

Meanwhile, Kevin has shared his excitement at returning to the theatre stage in Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of The Worlds with the multi-award winning show making a comeback in 2022.

The West End star will be making his debut as The Artilleryman alongside Steps’ and stage star Claire Richards who makes her debut as Beth, The Parson’s Wife.

Speaking about his new role, Kevin explained: “It’s so relevant. It’s a huge production in terms of the size and scope of the show.

“The Artilleryman is a really cool role. It’s really interesting and totally different to anything that I’ve done before. I was keen to do it.”.
