Tesco Clubcard warning as thousands of vouchers expire today

TODAY is the last day for thousands of Tesco Clubcard customers to use their vouchers before they expire.

The vouchers have already been extended by an extra six months as they were meant to expire last November, so this is your final chance to redeem them.

Those vouchers which were issued originally in November 2018 are due to run out on May 31.

You can't use them beyond that date so you only have today to claim any rewards.

Vouchers expiring this year have been extended too with any issued in May 2019 now set to expire on November 31, 2021.

Vouchers usually expire after two years of being issued to Tesco Clubcard members.

How to reclaim your lost Clubcard points

IT’S easy to claim back lost Clubcard points so you don’t miss out.

First log in to the Clubcard section on Tesco.com and click on the "My Vouchers" tab which shows your voucher history, including which points haven’t been spent yet.

These unused ones can then instantly be spent online. To use them in store, you'll need to print the vouchers yourself.

Bear in mind that you'll have to make sure you're registered with Tesco first to log into the website.

You can also sign up for Faster Vouchers – which means you don't need to wait for your points statement every three months.

To do this log into your Clubcard account and select the button that turns your points into vouchers.

Select "request vouchers" and the vouchers will appear in your account within 24 hours.

Through the supermarket's loyalty scheme, shoppers are given one point for every £1 spent and each Clubcard point is worth 1p when you shop.

These points are sent as vouchers every three months and are valid for two years.

If they aren't spent – either in store or online – they are lost and cannot be refunded.

Points can also be redeemed for reward vouchers which are up to three times more valuable – and these are usually valid for six months once exchanged.

But Tesco has extended the validity of the vouchers and rewards to help shoppers with expiring points during the pandemic.

It comes as many shoppers will want to spend the vouchers in-store, while lockdown restrictions previously prevented them from claiming rewards at cinemas and restaurants.

Shoppers themselves don't need to do anything to get the extended expiry dates.

Paper vouchers will be accepted at the till until the May 31 expiry date, while Clubcard vouchers in the app or online will show this date too.

How can you spend points before the expiry date?

You can use the vouchers on pretty much anything at Tesco from food to clothes and even petrol.

All you have to do is scan the barcode from the voucher at the checkout when prompted – this can be done on your phone app or with printed vouchers.

You can use the vouchers online too, you'll just have to copy and paste the code underneath the voucher to claim.

It's not just Tesco items you can spend points on.

Apart from the supermarket, there is a whole range of retailers Tesco has partnered with under the scheme – like Hungry Horse pubs.

For this reward, if you had 50p in Tesco Clubcard vouchers then you can use it to exchange for £1.50 at Hungry Horse pubs.

It means your points can go further, so you could be saving even more money than you first thought.

Once you've claimed your rewards you can get up to one year to spend it if it's a voucher for another retailer or restaurant, so it's best to act quick.

Clubcard holders could be owed hundreds of pounds after racking up unused points with the scheme – here's how you can claim the "lost" points.

Meanwhile, Tesco is set to axe the Metro store format in a shake-up affecting 127 shops.
