Lady Gaga warned Marine he could trip over her dress at inauguration

Lady Gaga stunned when she performed at the presidential inauguration, and it turns out she was also completely considerate behind the scenes.

The Rain On Me hitmaker sang the US national anthem when Joe Biden was sworn in as president last month, with the star catching everyone’s eye with her gorgeous outfit, which was compared to something out of The Hunger Games.

But, clearly aware of the problems the flowy red skirt could cause, she shared a joke with US Marine Capt. Evan Campbell, who escorted her.

‘She looked at me and she’s like “a fair warning … we have an equal chance of tripping on this,”‘ he told The Marine Corps Times.

He added that she was ‘incredibly genuine’ and told him it was ‘the most important day of her life.’

However, she still seemed to suffer pre-show nerves, just like any performer, with Campbell telling Task & Purpose that he reassured her beforehand.

‘It just seemed like a very natural human thing to do to look over and go, “Hey you’re going to do great. You always do well, you know, you’re a performer, you’re going to do great,”‘ he added.

After Campbell was asked to escort Gaga on the big day due to fears over her dress, snaps of the pair quickly got the meme treatment, with fans joking: ‘Find yourself a partner who looks at you the way that Lady Gaga looks at a United States Marine.’

The Marine was thrilled by the response, explaining he takes great pride in doing the Marine Corps proud.

Lady Gaga performed at the historic day alongside the likes of John Legend and Jennifer Lopez.

Looking back on the occasion, she described it as ‘the honour of my lifetime.’

Speaking about performing The Star-Spangled Banner in front of millions at a significant time in the US, she shared her hopes that everyone watching felt ‘love’.

‘I wish to send an extended prayer out to all the people that live on this land, that you will feel whole, that you will feel loved,’ she added to People.

‘That we all work in the interest of building the beloved community together.’
