Loose Women’s Janet Street-Porter slams Adele calling her a ‘self-important musical Meghan Markle’

Loose Women panellist Janet Street-Porter compared 33 year old superstar singer Adele to the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, 40.

The 74 year old broadcaster and journalist shared her dislike of the Easy On Me hitmaker's approach to fame and Hollywood.

While Tottenham-born Adele's decision to finally re-enter the spotlight after years hiding her personal struggle with divorce has thrilled her fans, Janet insisted the Oprah Winfrey chat and various interviews show different.

It comes as musician Adele, who is reportedly now friends with Meghan, has also chosen to release her next album, 30, which is said to be focusing on her split from ex Simon Konecki and how she approached that with her four year old son Angelo.

Janet Street-Porter claimed Adele is a "musical Meghan" and would do anything for the "publicity".

Her opinions come after Meghan famously also sat down with Oprah at the start of this year – an interview that took place in the chat show host's same rose garden.

Janet said she didn't believe Adele's "fake misery" and "the vacuousness of her bright shiny life in sunny California".

The journalist also claimed that the singer's decision to give interviews in such a way was so the world could see a "bright shiny" version of her life.

"Adele has earned a fortune from portraying herself as an unhappy misery," Janet told The Daily Mail in her column.

"Now she's one of the most famous people in the world with a multi-million-pound fortune isn't it time to button up, to let the songs speak for themselves, to spare us the back story, the intimate details about a failed marriage…

"Especially when we are only hearing one side of the story?"

The panellist went on to say that her "main beef" with the Hello singer is that "the more she gushes", the less she "loves" her, and would prefer Adele to leave the spotlight once more.

Janet also claimed she thought mum-of-one Adele was becoming "an over-packaged, self-important musical" version of the Duchess in her column.

It comes after the singer delivered a shiny Hollywood performance of tracks from her new album at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

"Can you any longer tell the difference between Meghan Markle and Adele Adkins? Both had difficult relationships with their fathers and worship their mothers," Janet then added, pointing out that "both felt that Oprah was the best person to share their ‘truths’ with".
