Love Island’s Callum Macleod breaks silence after quitting job to appear on show

Love Island 2019's first casualty Callum Macleod has broken his silence hours after becoming the first hopeful to be dumped from the villa.

During Friday night's tense recoupling , Callum, 28, was left the last man standing with each of the ladies taking it in turns to pick their next partner.

After finding himself without a mate, Callum was forced to leave the villa alone – leaving his reality TV dream in tatters.

The eviction was particularly painful, as Callum had opted to quit his high-flying day job to take part in the show where he lasted just five days.

After jetting back to Blighty, the former aircraft engineer has spoken out to share his feelings on the brutal dumping after being reunited with his mobile phone.

Swapping his trunks for a cosy pink jumper, Callum addressed the camera: "Hi everyone, just a quick message to say I'm back in the UK and I've got my phone back.

"Also to say thank you so so much for all the support, all the messages I'm reading and all the comments I really do appreciate it.

"I literally cannot thank you all enough," he added, gratefully.

Since his dumping from the island, Callum's friends have rallied around to share messages of support as they assured him: 'The good guys never win.'

Many of the positive messages were re-shared on Callum's official Instagram page.

"Who needs a TV show to find love when you look like that & are such a good guy," said one.

"Beyond proud of you… they didn't give you a chance," added another of Callum's home friends.

While a third wrote: "The good guys never win."

A fan account for contestant Lucie Donland said: "Love Island lost the sweetest guy in the villa."

Callum left the show after losing his partner Amber Gill to Anton Danyluk in the first recoupling of the new series and now he is not only looking for love, he will be looking for a job as well.

Speaking to The Sun, Callum revealed that he "had to hand my notice in," though was confident he could apply elsewhere "now I’ve got my trade and my apprenticeship."

He had originally applied for a sabbatical from his role, which he pursued romance in the villa but was turned down.

Callum said it was "a really hard decision but you only get one life," and that he "left on good terms."

Fearing that he may not make it all the way to the final of Love Island, Callum previously admitted that he his 'long term plan' was to return to the aircraft industry.

This may be Callum's best option now as this was his second rejection on a TV dating show, after previously failing to impress the singletons on Celebs Go Dating.

Callum joined former Love Islander 'loyal' Georgia and Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona on the show but the hunk's presence wasn't enough to secure him time with one of the female stars.
