Martin Lewis, 48, usually has his shows down to a tee; throwing all this information at us and we take it all in, emerging wiser about our finances. Thursday evening was no different, as viewers took in all the Money Saving Expert had to offer, but the presenter felt quite differently and couldn’t wait for it to be over.

We had quite a lot of technical difficulties in the studio, so it all felt quite panicked

After numerous technical difficulties sent him into a flap, he took to Twitter after the program was over to explain his behaviour to viewers.

“Phew. It’s over,” he wrote, seemingly relieved.

“We had quite a lot of technical difficulties in the studio, so it all felt quite panicked.”

Despite the studio equipment testing his patience, he hoped it was still an easy watch for fans.

“Hope that was just the feet under the water though and it was easy to watch #MartinLewis.”

He also took the time to thank a member of his team for updating his socials throughout.

Fans rushed to the comments section to reassure the host that it wasn’t as bad as he thought.

“Smashed it,” one praised.

“It was fine for a live, complex set up. I don’t expect as smooth as a pre record.

Always enjoy your passion on the money subject. And the emotional bit after the 11 year old concerned about cost of uni,” a second added.

“Brilliant as always,” a third cheered.

A fourth applauded: “Felt really natural and you all took the technical jiggery pokery in your stride. You were in your element! Nice to forget that a show was socially distanced for a change, and good work on freestyling when it came to kids going to uni #bravo.”

Last night, Martin discussed everything to do with financial education, from university costs to putting away for college.

But one viewer hit out at Martin, claiming he already knew the audience’s prepared questions.

They snapped: “Oh ffs worried about uni tuition fees at 11, talk about a set up question #martinlewis.”

Martin hit back: “It was not a set up question – I had no idea she was going to say that,” he insisted.

The user acknowledged his response, but wasn’t convinced: “Fair enough. I do find it hard to believe an 11 year old would worry about tuition fees though.”

The savings expert reasoned: “Me too but not the first time I’ve had that from youngsters that age. Parents panic about not being able to help them and it rubs off.”

Someone else had a pop at poor Martin, who had already had a bad evening, after mishearing what he’d said about university student loans.

“#MartinLewis did you really just encourage young people to go to university in the hope they will not get a job and be able to pay for the loan coz others will pay it for you,”(sic) they tutted, unaware of their mistake.

Martin was quick to rectify the issue and corrected them, clarifying exactly what he had said on-air.

“No the opposite,” he replied.

“I specifically said ‘I hope it costs you a fortune because that means you’ll be earning a fortune afterwards, but if you don’t earn enough, don’t panic your won’t have to repay it.'”
